The categories are:
A - covering the age group of 11 years to 13 years.
B - covering the age group of 14 years to 16 years.
C - covering the age group of 17 years to 19 years.
Duets – ages between 11 & 19 years.
Group 1 – 15 years or under.
Group 2 - 19 years or under.
Age limits for Entrants are to be taken as the age on 8th March 2009.
Groups will not be allowed to participate where their numbers on stage are fewer than6 or more than 30.
Each Entrant will perform the following:
Categories A & B & C & Duets - 2 ‘own choice’ pieces, each lasting no more than 3 minutes each.
Groups 1 & 2 - 1 ‘own choice’ piece lasting no more than 5 minutes.
It is understood that an Entrant may participate in more than one category. All Entrants will be notified of the time and venue of the preliminary heats after the Closing Date for entries, 1 st December 2008.
All entries must be made on the prescribed Entry Form (with a daytime or eveningTelephone number) and sent to the Competition Co-ordinator by the stipulated closing date. Entry Forms must be signed by the Parent/Guardian of the Entrant in categories A & B & Duets.
‘Own choice’ pieces for categories A, B & C & Duets should be contrasting and must be from a stage musical (not opera) and be performed in Welsh or English. Notice will be taken by the Adjudicators of the presentation of the piece.
The Entrance Fee of £10.00 for Categories A, B & C , £12 for Duets and £16.00 for Groups 1 & 2 must accompany each application.
Official Accompanists have been appointed but any Entrant may, if preferred, use their own accompanist or backing track during the preliminary heats. ( If a backing track is used it must be music only - no vocals). Finalists in the Solo and Duet Categories will be required to use the Official Accompanist in the Finals Concert.
Each Entrant must submit: one original piece of music for the Adjudicator plus a photocopy for the Accompanist (if required). The same applies If a backing track is chosen. These must be received by the Organisers at least two weeks before the Preliminaries. Failure to do this may result in the entrant not being allowed to take part in the Competition.
All Entrants must attend the preliminary heats at their allocated time and be ready to appear when called upon, otherwise they may be debarred from competing.
In the event of there being no more than one entry in a category by the closing date for the competition, the Organisers reserve the right not to proceed with such competition.
The above Conditions must be adhered to unless the Organisers deem it necessary to make any alterations in the interests of the efficient running of the Competition.
